Have you been looking for a good recipe filing program?  One that is easy-to-use, yet has a lot of features like the ability to print on 4 x 6 index cards, or searching by title or category?  Well, this recipe database is the one for you…with one restriction.  YOU MUST BE A REGISTERED OWNER OF Panorama II, a database application by ProVUE Development, to be able to use this custom database.  If you are, then RecipeWare is the program for you!

For a couple of years now, my mother has been hounding me to computerize her recipes.  Like many people, her recipe file is a mess—it consists of a drawer filled with newspaper and magazine clippings.  How she finds anything in there is beyond me.  Anyway, when I discovered Panorama’s macro language and capabilities, I decided to practice developing custom databases and used her wish for a recipe database as a starting point.  The result is RecipeWare 1.09.

RecipeWare is by no means a spectacular feat of programming, but I feel it is better than most of the stuff I’ve found on GEnie or elsewhere that was written in HyperCard because it is faster and has the ability to print on cards, unlike most of the recipe stackware that is available.  I hope you like it too!

  17. There isn’t much to RecipeWare that needs explaining.  You’ll find a resemblance to a HyperCard stack—everything is “button-driven.”  Just click on a button to do what you wish.

Please note that this database was designed for use on Mac II family computers because its data entry screen is designed for a 13 inch monitor.  Although it will “work” on an SE, SE/30, Classic or Plus, the window size will be incorrect, and most of the buttons will be obscured.  In addition, this database will most likely have problems on the Apple 12 inch monitors as well.  I don’t recommend using this on anything other than a 13 inch monitor.

Panorama II is compatible with System 7.0 (I don’t know if it will work in 32-bit mode), and RecipeWare also works just fine under System 7.0.  IMPORTANT NOTE: RecipeWare 1.09 is no longer compatible with version 1.5 or earlier of Panorama.  You must be using Panorama II to use RecipeWare.  Users of Panorama 1.5 should continue to use RecipeWare 1.07.

This custom database is freeware, and may be distributed via electronic bulletin board systems and other networks.  No one may charge to distribute RecipeWare (that includes ANY distribution charge, except for normal connect time charged by the major online services).  In other words, just about anyone may distribute this database, except companies such as EduCorp or similar “public domain software distributors.”  In addition, distributed copies of RecipeWare may not be altered in any way, except to add recipes.  In other words, any copy that you upload to a BBS or network for distribution should be the original copy that you downloaded, or something with more recipes.  This documentation must accompany all copies of RecipeWare and may not be altered in any way.  In addition, all users are required to send me a letter, post card or electronic mail message to register you as a user of RecipeWare.

  28. This database may not be used for commercial purposes, except by written permission from the author.  Please write to the address below for licensing information.

  30. If you upload RecipeWare to a BBS or network, I would deeply appreciate it if you could please send me a note (E-mail or US Mail) telling me where it was uploaded.

  32. RecipeWare is distributed AS IS.  Use it at your own risk.  It does not have any bugs or major problems that would screw up your machine or software, but the user shall assume all responsibility for any problems that may arise directly or indirectly from using RecipeWare.
